There’s something about Easter weekend that feels like a fresh start, making me pause, breathe, and reset. Maybe it’s the sunshine filtering through the curtains on a long weekend, the first real warmth of spring in the air, and the very best excuse to curl up with a towering TBR pile. This year, I’m not holding back. April is stacked, and I’m here for every single page, chapter, or track (because, yes, audiobooks absolutely count).
Audiobooks on My List:
- Under the Whispering Door by TJ Klune – I’ve been meaning to revisit Klune’s tender, otherworldly storytelling. Perfect for reflective spring afternoons.
Goodreads | StoryGraph | Pagebound | Fable | Hardcover | OpenLibrary | Litsy - The Borrowed Life of Frederick Fife by Anna Johnston – A title that already feels quietly magical. Curious to see if it delivers that bittersweet charm.
Goodreads | StoryGraph | Pagebound | Fable | Hardcover | OpenLibrary | Litsy - Wellness by Nathan Hill – Part of my Goodreads Reading Challenge pick; I’ve heard it’s a rich, character-driven listen.
Goodreads | StoryGraph | Pagebound | Fable | Hardcover | Litsy - The Serial Killer’s Guide to San Francisco by Michelle Choinard – A darkly funny concept that screams “thriller with wit.”
Goodreads | StoryGraph | Pagebound | Fable | Hardcover | OpenLibrary | Litsy - Very Dangerous Things by Lauren Muñoz – YA mystery energy but with serious bite! My kind of escapism.
Goodreads | StoryGraph | Pagebound | Fable | Hardcover | OpenLibrary - A Cryptic Clue by Victoria Gilbert – Librarian sleuths, puzzles, and murders? I could not resist.
Goodreads | StoryGraph | Pagebound | Fable | Hardcover | OpenLibrary | Litsy
eBooks I’m Reading:
- The Astral Library by Kate Quinn – Another Goodreads challenge read. The title alone is every book lover’s dream.
Goodreads | StoryGraph | Pagebound | Fable | Hardcover | OpenLibrary | Litsy - The Last Devil to Die by Richard Osman – Because once you’re on The Thursday Murder Club train (especially after the Book Two), there’s no getting off!
Goodreads | StoryGraph | Pagebound | Fable | Hardcover | OpenLibrary | Litsy - The Impossible Fortune by Richard Osman – Naturally, continuing with Osman’s next installment. He’s too charming to stop now.
Goodreads | StoryGraph | Pagebound | Fable | Hardcover | OpenLibrary | Litsy
Audiobook ARC
A Deadly Episode by Anthony Horowitz – I’ve been following this series closely and am dying to listen. Horowitz never disappoints when it comes to meta-mystery brilliance.
Goodreads | StoryGraph | Pagebound | Fable | Hardcover | OpenLibrary | Litsy
eBook ARCs via NetGalley:
- The Family Tree Murders by Laura Hern – Family secrets and found letters? Automatic click.
Goodreads | StoryGraph | Pagebound | Fable | Hardcover - The Final Chapter by C. B. Everett – What a fantastically meta concept! Murder meets the end of a story, literally.
Goodreads | StoryGraph | Pagebound | Fable | Hardcover - How to Kill a Crime Writer by Sarah Lotz – Couldn’t resist the premise (or the title).
Goodreads | StoryGraph | Pagebound | Fable | Hardcover - My Inner Child Wants to Kill by Karsten Dusse – A translated work I’m so excited for. It sounds wickedly funny and introspective; I only wish I had the first book (Murder Mindfully).
Goodreads | StoryGraph | Pagebound | Fable | Hardcover | OpenLibrary | Litsy - The Importance of Being Murdered by Debbie Young – That title alone deserves an ovation!
Goodreads | StoryGraph | Pagebound | Fable | Hardcover
Edelweiss eBook ARCs:
- Death at King’s Cross by Rosanne Limoncelli – A dream read where favorite authors team up to solve a crime. The first book was pure joy.
Goodreads | StoryGraph | Pagebound | Fable | Hardcover - My Grandfather, the Master Detective by Masateru Konishi – Another translation! The concept sounds brilliant, and I love discovering global mysteries.
Goodreads | StoryGraph | Pagebound | Fable | Hardcover | OpenLibrary | Litsy
April Releases I’m Waiting For:
- A Cute Little Murder by Molly Harper – (April 21) Cozy mystery with a touch of humor. Harper always nails that blend.
Goodreads | StoryGraph | Pagebound | Fable | Hardcover - The Pie & Mash Detective Agency by J.D. Brinkworth – (March 10) British charm, foodie vibes, and crime-solving? Yes, please.
Goodreads | StoryGraph | Pagebound | Fable | Hardcover - Murder Mindfully by Karsten Dusse – (April 14) Desperate to read this since I’ve got the sequel ARC!
Goodreads | StoryGraph | Pagebound | Fable | Hardcover | OpenLibrary | Litsy - In the Spirit of French Murder by Colleen Cambridge – (April 28) Paris, writers, murder… say no more.
Goodreads | StoryGraph | Pagebound | Fable | Hardcover | OpenLibrary
Physical Books:
Now, here’s my absolute favourite part of this month’s reading plan.
I’m visiting my one-year-old niece for a week, and she has Very Strong Opinions about digital devices. Kindles? Kobo? Not in her house. She will not stand for it.
So I’ve packed two physical books, knowing exactly what will happen: I’ll settle in with my book, she’ll grab hers, and she’ll either snuggle up against me or plant herself firmly in my lap and read (or, more accurately, hum contentedly) alongside me. And honestly? That sounds like the best reading week of the year.
- The Secret Christmas Library — Jenny Colgan
A cosy, book-filled story that I’ve been saving for exactly the right moment. And reading it while my niece turns pages next to me feels like the right moment.
Goodreads | StoryGraph | Pagebound | Fable | Hardcover | OpenLibrary | Litsy - Autumn Nights, Holiday Lights — Elle Douglas
Warm, seasonal, and perfect for snuggling. My niece may only be one, but she has impeccable taste in reading companions.
Goodreads | StoryGraph | Pagebound | Fable | Hardcover | OpenLibrary | Litsy
Easter Reading Ritual:
April is, without question, my most ambitious reading month yet. Between the audiobooks, the ARCs, the library holds, and one very opinionated one-year-old. It is going to be wonderful.
If you’re reading any of these this month, I’d love to know! Drop a comment below and let’s talk books.

Happy Spring, Shawnerly! I love that you have an ambitious reading list for April. I do the same every month. I have read the first two and enjoyed them very much. Your reading with your niece sounds so precious. I loved when my grandkids snuggled on my lap and I read to them or we shared a book. They are too old for that now, but we do still read together when I can get them to sit still.
Thank you so much for your kind words, Carla. Reading is, I feel, a losing art with the fascination of technology taking its place. So, everytime the new generation holds a book, my heart rejoices. I’m so glad you read with your grandkids.
