Introduction

The Book of Doors by Gareth Brown is one of those rare finds. A debut novel that sneaks up on to you, throws open a door (literally!), and drags you into a world where anything is possible… if you’re holding the right book. What starts as a quiet story about a bookseller quickly turns into something far more magical, layered, and utterly unpredictable.

Let’s talk about the book

I’ll be honest, I thought I was going to DNF this one.

This isn’t my genre, not even close. I picked it up as part of Goodreads Challenge, with a raised eyebrow and a mental note saying “You’ll probably not finish this.”

And then… I didn’t put it down. Not once. When I had to eat, or grab water, I switched to the audiobook.

This book gripped me. The concept is just so clever. Imagine doors that open to anywhere, but only for people holding very specific, very powerful books. Add in a shadowy society, a good dose of danger, and some surprisingly emotional turns, and you’ve got yourself a recipe for an all-nighter.

This is one of the most immersive and engaging books I’ve read in a long time. It pulls you in so completely. The pace is sharp, the writing clean, and the characters feel grounded, which makes the whole thing hit harder.

I also have another post where I have shared some of my favorite quotes from the book. But one I will share here too…

“This is the Book of Memories. Share it, to share a memory, Give it, to give a memory, And take it, to take a memory.”

Would I recommend it?

If you’re like me, sticking to a comfort zone in books, do yourself a favor and take a chance on this book. This book will change the way you look at life; once you’ve finished it. I’d absolutely recommend it to everyone I know.

Rating: 5 out of 5.
