Book Blurb:
Rosella is closer than ever to finding the culprit behind Winterspell’s magic theft when her key researcher vanishes into thin air. Then four more residents disappear overnight. There are no witnesses, no clues and no explanation, and the town is teetering on the edge of panic. Rosella and Orion have to find every one of the missing while keeping Winterspell from falling apart. The closer they get to the truth, the darker and more twisted it becomes, and whoever is behind it may already be planning their next move.
Let’s talk murder!!!
Whipped Cream and Werewolves picks up directly from Batter and Broomsticks (book 5) and wraps up the storyline of Rosella and Orion’s mission to protect the fairies. It was a long and winding two books, and the conclusion pays off. If you’re reading the series, read Batter and Broomsticks first, because this one really is the second half of one story.
The setup is a good hook. Rosella and Orion are closer than ever to finding the culprit behind the magic theft when her key researcher vanishes into thin air. Then four more Winterspell residents go missing overnight. Five disappearances with no witnesses and no clues make this a crisis, and the town is on the edge of panic. Rosella has to find the missing while keeping Winterspell together, and the picture gets darker and more twisted the closer she gets.
This book also gives us more of Ghost’s backstory, and it makes him a much more fun character. As Orion’s partner in the department, he’s more than a sidekick. The added history makes it make so much sense that he’s Orion’s partner and confidante, and it gives us more understanding about him and his methods. Kelsey Navarro Foster does a fantastic job with the various differing personalities. I think I enjoy this series more because of her narration. She’s a star.
What keeps me coming back to this series, though, is the people. Rosella and her family are a joy to spend time with: funny, warm, and always bickering in a way that feels like real family. And Orion’s relationship with Rosella’s grandma is just too cute. Their scenes are some of my favorite moments in the book.
This is a wonderful, engaging series that balances cozy charm with real mystery, and this installment delivers a strong, satisfying payoff for everyone who stuck with the fairy storyline. Highly recommended for fans of paranormal cozies and magical small towns.
Would I recommend it?
Five people vanish overnight and I was still grinning through most of it… Whipped Cream and Werewolves is the payoff the Sugar Shack Witch Mysteries fairy storyline deserved, and it delivers. Rosella’s bickering family and Orion’s scenes with her grandma are worth the listen on their own, and the mystery gets properly twisted too. Read Batter and Broomsticks first, because this is the second half of one story. It’s out October 20, so mark your calendar and add it to your TBR TODAY.

5 Books to Read After Whipped Cream and Werewolves
Sprinkles and Sea Serpents by Danielle Garrett
Where it all starts in Winterspell Lake, and the place to begin if you haven’t met Rosella and her bakery-owning family yet.
Curiosity Thrilled the Cat by Sofie Kelly
Magical Cats Mystery #1 is a great next read if you love a small-town cozy where the animals have more personality than most of the people.
Secondhand Spirits by Juliet Blackwell
The first Witchcraft Mystery pairs a witch who runs a vintage clothing shop with a murder to solve, which is a good fit if the magic is half the reason you read paranormal cozies.
Louisiana Longshot by Jana Deleon
Miss Fortune Mystery #1 brings a funny small-town heroine who attracts trouble, and it’s a long-running series that’s fun to start from the beginning.
Wickedly Dangerous by Deborah Blake
A missing-children case, Otherworld creatures and a witchy heroine make this a good pick if the missing-persons plot hooked you, though it leans more urban fantasy than cozy.
Okay, Winterspell Residents, Who’s Your Favorite?
So who’s your favorite person in Winterspell? Are you Team Ghost now that we know more about where he comes from? Or did Orion and Rosella’s grandma steal your heart the way they stole mine? Tell me in the comments. And if you’re still working your way through the series, please keep the spoilers to yourself. I will find you.
